Google Spreadsheet

Another example of using Google Docs is this spreadsheet. This is the student's schedule at the school where I work back home. I share the schedule with the other teachers so we can all edit it according to our daily and weekly classes.
Here you can view the spreadsheet.

My Virtual tour

My virtual tour covers 4 Arab countries. Then I asked the students questions about the countries, like mentioning some cities in that country, the number of populations.. etc.
The students will be required to do a virtual tour like this, referring to countries they have visited and would like to visit in the future, and add comments about the country on each stop.
Here is my tour.

My Wiki Lesson

My Wiki lesson is about teaching beginner students the Arabic letters. I used ktwelve.wikispaces.com.
You can view the lesson here.

Webquest

This is my webquest. I used zunal.com to create it as I found it easy and very well organized.
The students will do their research on one of the famous characters who was an author. They already have a news about him in their text book, but they don't know about him. So, their task is getting information about him, his life, and his works.
This is my webquest.

Screencast- Roots of Arabic words

This only a sample of a screencast that teaches the students the roots of Arabic words. I haven't tried the screencast before, but I drew that chart with more explanation on the board in class and they enjoyed it, and now they can get the root of any word, & also from the root they can form words. This can be an assignment for them to do, I give them the root then they have to form the words or vice-versa.
You can see it here :)

Podcast

My Podcast was that I asked the students, (Beginner level of Arabic), to create simple sentences using the vocabularies they have studied, then record them with their voices. The main goal of recording, was to make them improve their pronunciation and to be attentive in pronouncing each word. Also, I could later play those recordings in class, and let them listen to each others' and recognize what the person is saying, and correct their pronunciation together. We used Aviary for recording.

Evidence of Networking Participation

My network participation was through the discussion board, sharing my opinion with my colleagues and asking for their help:
I am also following many of their blogs and have their pages in my RSS:

I always learn from them and get ideas from the work they do. I commented on some blogs, like:

Another Web2.0 tool- Quizlet

I found another web2.0 tool, it is called Quizlet. This website allows the students to create vocabulary lists then test themselves, they can view them as flash cards, & they can play word games. The teacher also can create the vocabularies and share it with the students or with other teachers. You can share it on Facebook and Twitter too. This does not apply only to language teachers, but to all teachers who use definitions or word matchings. I think you can utilize it according to your field.

In my case, I asked the students to create their own vocabulary list and use it as a way of studying and memorizing the words, in addition, to test themselves. And from my side, I also create new vocabulary lists that are related to the lessons and share them with the students.
To learn more about it, click here :).

Web2.0 tool "Edmodo"

Another Web2.0 tool..
I wanted to share my experience of using Edmodo.com. Edmodo looks like Facebook but very very simple and is used to link the teacher with the students.
As a teacher you log on then create a group for your class, so it will provide you with a code which you should give to your students in order to log on to be in that group.

What I did is that I posted the assignment on the wall of the group & the due date, so all the students in that group can see. Then, they turned in the assignment through Edmodo too, as they can upload any files (word, mp3, wav, excel ...etc.).

When they turn in the assignment, Edmodo notifies me with the number of the people who turned in & I can view them. The good thing too is that there's a Grade button, you can grade the students after viewing their assignment.

Moreover, they can comment on your post & you can reply.. Exactly as you can do on Facebook.

Good luck ;)

Photo Slideshow

This is just a sample of my photo album. I meant to write Arabic in it, but Roxio didn't like it & didn't show it :(.. So, I kept it in English ;). I also used cartoon characters as this is one of the things that attract students (kids and adults too ;)). I would assign the students to collect pictures and describe them by commenting on the pictures as I did in my album. This would apply for pictures of places, of themselves, daily situations, adjectives ...etc.

Using Google Docs

Just wanted to share my experience of using google docs with my student online..
He had some scripts which he wanted me to check & correct.. After sending them to my google account email, I shared them with him (he doesn't have a google account though). What happens is that when I share the file (by adding the email I want to share with), google sends the link of the document to the other participant so that he/she can view without the need of having a gmail account.

We worked together on the document (using Skype too), so whenever I select the wrong word to him, it gets colored so he can see it, then he can correct it himself or I correct it again to him.
It didn't take time & it was so easy to use. It also saves the modification automatically, so you don't have to worry if you forget to save it. But before you close the document, you have to be sure that the "Save" button is not active, this way, it means that it has saved your last changes already.
You can view the document here.
PS. the document is written in Arabic.. so don't get surprised with the script, or think it's a wrong link ;).
Best of luck.. Enjoy it ;)
